The Miracle in the ICU Waiting Room
We will worship him in the good and bad news and in cancer and cancer-free! We will pray for a healing on this side of life, but no matter the answer we are given, we will trust that God knows exact
The ICU waiting room was quite. I was tucked away in a corner trying to settle my mind from the onslaught of thoughts. There was a woman curled up in a small chair trying to sleep. Another lady was scrolling through her phone, but seemed unsettled and on the verge of crying. All of a sudden, I heard, “He opened his eyes! He opened his eyes! He opened his eyes! Thank you Jesus!” Her hands reached to the heavens as you continued to thank Jesus for the miracle she so desperately wanted. She danced around the ICU waiting room with a heart full of happiness and words that kept giving Jesus the credit.
As I sat in my corner of the ICU waiting room, my mind wen back to my dad as he was at the bedside of his wife, my stepmom in ICU room 9412. The day before, my dad received a phone call that I will never forget. I as I watched my dad on the call, his lips began to quiver and tears began to flow down the side of his face. He tried to speak, but his voice was shaky and the words were hard to come out. Finally he said, “Please talk to my son.” I said, “hello, this is Brian, I am Charles’ son.” The doctor began to explain to me that my stepmom has lymphoma and that it has attacked the central nervous system of her brain. He said, “We need to meet in order to set up a plan for treatment.” I told him, “We will meet them back at the hospital at five that evening.”
As I listened to the woman in the ICU waiting room thanking Jesus, I couldn’t help but be a little selfish for my dad. After all, my dad had already experienced our mom’s life taken by cancer twenty-seven years ago. I asked God to give my stepmom a miracle, too! In my conversation with God, I asked him to give us a miracle so that we can raise our hands to the heavens and worship you just like the woman in the ICU waiting room.
My dad and stepmom have deep faith and believes that God performs miracles. They believe that healings come in a variety of ways and sometimes, the healing does not come in this life; but rather it comes in the eternal life.
As I write, I do not know what God will do for my stepmom, but one thing I do know is that he will never leave her side. I know for a fact that God will provide the best care and give her his undivided attention. I also know that God will hold my dad tightly and love him and give him strength and reassurance that no matter how his wife’s life unfolds, he will be there every step of the way.
Dad and my stepmom, Judy are big believers of Isaiah 41:10, “Don't be afraid. I am with you. Don't tremble with fear. I am your God. I will make you strong, as I protect you with my arm and give you victories.”
No matter how God chooses to heal my stepmom’s brain cancer, we will all raise our hands to the heavens and say, “Thank you, Jesus!” We will worship him in the good and bad news and in cancer and cancer-free! We will pray for a healing on this side of life, but no matter the answer we are given, we will trust that God knows exactly what is best.
Remember, Be God Controlled!
